The Chinook salmon fishing dropped off yesterday, still a few decent 8lb to 14lb Chinook salmon from the Clay Bank area, Pt. Evens and Pt. Dalco. The salmon seem to be moving through the area in small schools one day decent the next slower time on the water is key and watch out for the seals they have been taking some salmon and gear from the fishermen.
Lingcod closes the 16th so just a few days left there has been very little pressure but if you are patient and seasoned there is some lings available live bait is a huge advantage when fishing lingcod in this area.
Crabbing is closed in area 11 till 7/2/15 but area 13 is open and there is lots of Rock crab to be had but Dungeness are harder to come by fish deep 140’ to 160’ and you find some nice Dungeness crab.
Yesterday the chinook fishing picked up we had several decent chinook come in to the Point Defiance Marina Complex the salmon ranged from about 8lbs to almost 20lbs most of the salmon were caught near the Claybank area trolling the low water change in 140’ to 180’ of water near bottom. Most of the fishermen were using flasher and artificial squid or spoons but a couple of guys were successful with salmon plugs.
For the fishermen that prefer jigging the same area the troller’s are fishing, the shelf area between Pt. Defiance and Pt. Dalco and Pt. Evens area are producing chinook as well.
For those fishermen that like to mooch the areas mentioned above should provide good opportunity but dog fish have moved in pretty heavy around the Clay Bank area.
Crab fishermen in area 13 have been struggling to catch Dungeness crab the best success has been in 140’ to 160’ of water near the Nisqually River, wollochett bay and Chambers Bay.
Ling cod fishermen very light pressure here and only a few days left to the season but there has been a few caught recently in the Narrows bridge area.
