While salmon fishing continues to be slow on the Southern Oregon Coast, lingcod and rockfish continue to aggressively bite. We’ve been finding limits of lings and rockfish daily, along with half a dozen to a dozen crab per day.
Bait is plentiful off of Brookings, but the salmon just aren’t here yet in big numbers.
We’ve been using light tackle to catch the rockfish in shallow water, usually less than 50 feet. The lings have been biting small rockfish, while herring or sardines, and large jigs.
Ocean conditions out of Brookings have been great – 1 to 2 foot swell and light winds.
We expect salmon fishing to pick up by the Fourth of July weekend.
