MA 11 – Puget Sound Salmon Report

The Chinook fishing has slowed quite a bit since last weekend however we have already seen a few this morning, looks like it is going to bounce back as expected. The best way to catch Chinook lately has been trolling remember these fish can be suspended this time of year and in the usual areas with the Slag to the Clay Banks the most productive but the Gig Harbor shoreline should start producing any day more consistently.

There are resident Coho in the area as well try trolling 40’ to 70’ with flasher and artificial squid and a little faster than you would for Chinook also another area to find these fish is along the shoreline near kelp beads with a 1/2 ounce of lead, 5’ leader, light rod and a spoon, herring strip or small cut plug herring it is great fun on light gear.

There are Pink salmon in the area right now as well the best areas are the Dash Pt., outside Quarter Master Harbor and Gig Harbor shoreline best depths are from 30’ to 60’with flasher and artificial squid.

Dungeness crabbing remains slow but I have heard of some success from fishermen fishing in 150’ to 180’ of water.
